Ho-Hwan Chun, president of Pusan National University (hereafter, PNU), awarded Jim Rogers (78, chairman of Rogers Holdings), a globally-renowned investor, an honorary doctorate in philosophy at the conference room on the 3rd floor of the university main building on April 22. PNU rewarded him for his achievements including his unique investment philosophy and contribution to the establishment of the current economic understanding of the world. Furthermore, he has been instrumental in efforts towards promoting an optimistic vision of a reunified Korea, and he has given hope to young people through his many books.

Jim Rogers, who has been favorable towards prospects for investing in North Korea and the Korean Peninsula, delivered a special talk on “Korean Unification and the Future” to members of the university after the ceremony.

“I’m glad to receive an honorary PhD from a great university like PNU. I studied philosophy in college, and if students ask what they should study in college, I encourage them to learn about philosophy and history” said Mr. Rogers. “Philosophy and history help us develop the power to think. We need to have the power to think independently with curiosity so that we can find a successful path in our life journey when crises and opportunities come together.”

“If the 19th century was the age of Britain and the 20th century was the age of the US, then the 21st century is the age of China. However, the key flows are going to China, North Korea, and South Korea” he said. “The DMZ between the two Koreas will soon disappear, and North Korean resources will be available to the Korean Peninsula’s 80 million people. This reunified Korea will be an exciting country, so investors in the US and Japan are heading to North Korea.”

“I am so glad that Mr. Rogers becomes an alumni of PNU” said the president of PNU. “I hope that the award of honorary PhD is not only a solid investment for the future and vision of the university but also a message of peace that will advance the prosperity of a reunified Korea and the Korean Peninsula.”
