Scholarships

PNU Scholarship Programs

Pusan National University offers a variety of scholarships to students with excellent academic performance or with demonstrated financial need. The types of scholarships are as follow:

PNU Scholarship Programs

1. Merit-Based Scholarships

Scored higher than the following on the university entrance examination for each specified subject category

  • Humanities and Social Sciences: Total score for Language and English exceeds 195
  • Sciences: Total score for Mathematics A and Language exceeds 189
  • Arts and Athletics: Total score for Language and English exceeds 189
  • 100% of tuition covered for all semesters
  • 3 million won in living expenses per semester (500,000 won monthly)
  • Preferential treatment in dormitory allocation
  • Short- to long-term dispatch abroad (sophomore year)
  • Preferential treatment in selecting overseas volunteer and experience programs
    (Extra points will be given)
  • 100% of tuition will be covered when entering the general graduate schools of PNU
Regular Admissions

Conditions for continuous scholarship support: The beneficiaries of special scholarships are required to maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher until graduation. If a beneficiary fails to meet the standard for a single semester, scholarship support will not be provided the following semester. When beneficiaries fail to meet the standard for two semesters their scholarships are permanently revoked.

B. General Scholarships for Students Who Achieved High Scores: Full or Partial Tuition (for one semester)
  • Early admissions: Students whose scores exceeded the requirements for the specified subjects in each category

    Only when meeting the minimum required scores on the entrance examinations

  • Regular admissions: entrance examination (80%) + subjects (high school GPA) (20%)

    For students applying to arts and athletics programs, the scores of their performance evaluation will be reflected.

C. Special Scholarship for Nano / Life Sciences

Special scholarships for students of the College of Nano Science and Technology and the College of Natural Resources and Life Science who achieved high scores on the entrance examinations

Special Scholarship for Nano / Life Sciences:

  • When students continuously maintain a GPA of 3.5/4.5 each semester, scholarship support is provided for four years.
  • When students fail to meet the standard for two semesters on a cumulative basis, they risk losing their scholarship

    Excludes students who exceeded the maximum duration of enrollment

Students whose mathematics or exploration scores among the four categories on the college entrance examination is within level 2 and the scores of one of the remaining two categories is within level 1 100 percent of the tuition and 50% of the university promotion fee
College of Natural Resources and Life Science Students whose average scores are within level 2.2 among the four categories in the college entrance examination 100 percent of the tuition and university promotion fee
  • When students continuously maintain a GPA of 3.5/4.5 each semester, scholarship support is provided for four years.
  • When students fail to meet the standard for two semesters on a cumulative basis, they risk losing their scholarship

    Excludes students who exceeded the maximum duration of enrollment

Students whose average scores are within level 2.6 among the four categories in the college entrance examination 100 percent of the tuition and 50% of university promotion fee

For scores in the exploration category, the College of Nano Science and Technology reflects the average score of the three subjects in which the student achieved the highest scores, and the College of Natural Resources and Life Science reflects the average score of the two subjects in which the student achieved the highest scores.

D. Naman Scholarship: 100% of Tuition and the University Promotion Fee (started in the 2011 academic year)

Contribution from the late Naman Cheonyeo Kang: Students who achieved excellent academic performance through financial difficulties

  • Conditions for continuous scholarship support: required to achieve a GPA of 3.5/4.5 or higher in the previous semester
  • Selected from sophomore year, and granted until graduation as long as qualifications are met

2. Scholarship for Beneficiaries of Preferential Support: Supports 100% of Tuition

  • Scholarship for the beneficiaries of support for National Men of Merit: Children or grandchildren of contributors to national independence, children or siblings (under 18) of National Men of Merit, children of the victims of defoliants (beneficiaries of related compensation), and children or siblings (under 18) of the Activists for Democratic Movement on May 18
  • North Korean defectors scholarship: North Korean defectors and their children
  • Scholarship for beneficiaries of special educational support: 100% of tuition for students with a class 1 to 3 disability, and 100% of the university promotion fee for students with a class 4 to 6 disability

3. Scholarship for beneficiaries of basic livelihood support: Full of Partial Tuition

  • Students who receive national support: Granted the national basic scholarship (Mirae Dream) and provided the university’s scholarship in addition
  • Scholarship for students with financial difficulties: Support tuition

    Refer to the standards for awarding scholarships for financial difficulties

  • Scholarship for children who are the heads of their households and children dismissed from group homes: Support 100% tuition and PNU promotion fee

4. Special Scholarship: 100% Tuition

  • Scholarship Committee Accredited Scholarship
    • For students who are accredited by the Scholarship Committee for special reasons such as excellent sports abilities
  • Scholarship for students who passed national examinations
    • For students who passed the bar exam, exams for higher administrative officials (administrative or technical positions), and external administration exams as well as exams for certified public accountants, patent lawyers, and grade 5 or a higher level of national and local public officials during enrollment
