Pusan National University(PNU) invites foregin visiting professors the preliminaty stage of regular faculty recruitment for foreign language education in relevant departments or in the liberal education faculty. The requirements ars as follows:

1. Definition: Foreign Visiting Professors

A visiting professor teaching in his or her native language in a relevant department of a school or in the Liberal Arts Institution

2. Employment as Visiting Professor

Hiring process

The president of PNU signs an employment contract with the applicant based on the information contained in the letter of recommendation written by the relevant department of a school.

Term of Employment

The contract is renewed on an annual basis at the beginning of the semester.

3. Performance Evaluation and Management

The related department prepares evaluation guidelines and evaluates the professor every semester or year. The evaluation results will be referenced for the renewal of the employment contract.

4. Standards for Remuneration

  • PhD degree: approximately 2.3 million won a month
  • Master's degree or higher: approximately 2.2 million won month
  • Bachelor's degree or higher: approximately 2.1 million won month

5. Standards for Benefits

Accommodation on campus

  • Part of the dormitory (Wungbi Hall for married couples) can be provided.
  • Part of the management fee (100,000 won) for Wungbi Hall and the electrical fee shall be paid by the occupier; this may vary according to changes in monthly management cost.

Rooms at Sangnam International House

  • Part of the management fee (100,000 won) for Sangnam International House shall be paid by the occupier.
  • This may vary according to changes in visiting room charges.
  • Other utility bills, including electricity, telephone, gas, and cable TV shall be paid by the occupier.

Grants for off-campus housing

  • PNU provides a 300,000 won lodging allowance to professors living off-campus.

All foreign professors must pay for national healthcare insurance and contribute to the national pension. You may also register for employment insurance depending on your visa status in accordance with applicable laws.

PNU pays for retirement benefits and return airfare (economy class) redeemable upon completion of the employment contract. Payment for airfare will be made as arrears with GTR Payment. Tickets will not be purchased for flights that do not accept GTR. Airfare should be requested within 30 days of retirement. The departure date should not exceed more than 90 days from the date of retirement.

6. Responsibilities

  • Conduct lectures, research, and other tasks related to the major according to the instructions of the dean of the department.
  • Minimum teaching hours shall be 12 hours a week. If the total teaching hours are less than 12 hours a week, he/she needs to make up the hours with a related department.
  • Required to work a minimum of 40 hours a week on PNU’s campus.
  • The responsibilities of visiting lecturers who belong to the Liberal Arts Institute can be decided by the director of the center with consideration to the institution’s management conditions. However, the level of responsibility should be greater than or equal to general visiting professors of departments, and include giving lectures in foreign languages at the International Language Center.

7. Other Information

  • Lecturing outside of PNU will be prohibited if the required number of lecture hours are not met. Visiting professors are prohibited from teaching or lecturing outside PNU except in cases when permission is granted.
