School Affairs

Period and Scope

  1. 1
Change of Major refers to a change to another department, major, or college of the same grade. Students are allowed to change their major during the second semester of their second year, or before the first semester of their third year. A student may change his/her major only once before graduation.
  2. 2
Each department, college, or major will accept transferred students, up to a maximum of 20% of their student body. The College of Humanities and the College of Social Studies will allow transfers up to a maximum of 10% of their student body. A transfer to another major within the same department should be made before the first semester of the third year. Students are not allowed to transfer to the College of Pharmacy or the College of Nursing. Students who have been admitted in recognition of their special abilities and students with fixed majors are not allowed to transfer to other majors.

Procedure

A student who intends to transfer to another major is required to submit an application for major transfer that has been signed by the Head of the original department to the Head of the Department (College) to which the student wishes to be transferred.

Required Credits for Transferred Students

Transferred students are required to take all of the major courses of the transferred department, major, or college, regardless of the number of credits already acquired. When students of non-education departments, who are selected for the teacher certification program, transfer to another department in which the program is established, the former credits of the program are not valid. When students of non-education departments, including students who took the teacher certification program, gain approval for transfer to education majors, they are allowed to take the teacher certification program.

Acknowledgement of Credits for Transferred Students

  • When courses taken by transferred students, specially admitted students, double major students, and combined major students are presumed to be the same as the courses designated by the department, the credits and the GPA are reflected.
  • Specially admitted students are presumed to acquire credits for general courses in the years prior to their special admission.
